Lake Como
Glamour and gridlock share the same shoreline at Lake Como, where Clooney-era celebrity sheen and Bond-film scenery now draw day-trippers by the busload to Como, Bellagio and Varenna. The narrow lakeside roads, the ferries and the cobbled village lanes were never built for this, and the crush has pushed both the town hall and the great villas toward hard limits. Beauty here increasingly comes queued, capped and taxed.
