Mykonos
Mykonos is the Cyclades at full volume - whitewashed lanes, windmills and a nightlife that draws cruise crowds many times the size of its resident population. With roughly 12,000 permanent residents absorbing 1.29 million arrivals a year, the island has become a flashpoint in Greece's reckoning with overtourism, water scarcity and overdevelopment. New cruise levies, accommodation taxes and proposed visitor caps now ring-fence a destination running well past its design capacity.

Movement through central areas is slow — expect to dodge and wait. Lines at major sights routinely exceed 1–2 hours without pre-booking. Iconic views are difficult to photograph without crowds in frame. Local residents have publicly raised concerns about visitor volume.
