Phi Phi Islands

A cluster of six limestone islands in Krabi Province that became internationally famous after the 2000 film The Beach. Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Le was closed in 2018 after coral coverage fell to 8 percent, and it reopened with visitor limits and a seasonal closure regime. The wider Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park drew over 1.6 million visitors in ten months of 2023-24, generating record entrance fee revenue while the park chief acknowledged ongoing pressure on ecosystems.
